Year in Review: Third Year (2016-2017)
What? So What?
Throughout my third year of college, 2016-2017, I had the opportunity to continue my travels outside of the United States. I was able to visit another continent, this time I went to Australia. A goal that I have is to visit each continent so far I have been to four (North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia). By traveling outside of my culture and home I am exposed to new people and new ways of life that I would not be able to see if I stayed in the United States my entire life. I am majoring in psychology and an important part of this field is to be able to understand and see things from someone else’s point of view. One needs to be able to see things from another’s perspective, not just from one’s own perspective. By traveling as much as I do, I am becoming more culturally sensitive.
Now What?
I had the opportunity to take a class on abnormal psychology, which focused on mental illnesses and disorders. Taking that class really peaked my interest in mental illnesses and before this semester I was unsure of where I wanted to go with my psychology degree, but now I know what I want to do. I am planning on focusing on the clinical aspect of psychology, ideally with nursing. I would like to further my degree beyond a degree in psychology to include a degree in nursing. In doing this, I will be able to work with people who are suffering from a mental illness or disorder. I hope that I am able to accomplish this goal at the University of Cincinnati and remain a part of the University Honors Program.
